Nightmare
Shadows lurking gloomy night
The Moon commands silence.
Not knowing where you are,
Not knowing what is real.
Racing through the forest,
Heart thumping, beating in my chest
His every footstep, pounding in my ears
As I reach the woods, nothing is there, just air.
Nothingness, stillness consumes me.
Failing and tumbling, bracing myself for the fall.
Determined branches clawing at my harm
As I pull away leaving red streaks behind.
Running,
Running,
Running faster--
Tears gushing from my swollen eyes.
My lungs are burning, I can't breathe
Trees enclose me in.
No place to turn or hide, no escape.
Not a sliver of light penetrating through.
Except for the glint of madness in his eyes.
Death is calling, ready to accept it's prey.
Up or down, you can't find,
Where is the door?
Every cell begging to wake up
Dragged deeper, deeper.
Running, running, running
His methodical laughter, hauntingly you hear.
Wake up, run you are almost there.
As I reach for the door
Finally catching my breath, praying I can be safe.
I repeat over and over to myself as I turn the knob.
It's locked.
Trembling, no energy left. I surrendered to the ground, He has overtaken me.
